Cult of Chucky Review

Child’s Play/Chucky is a very unique franchise. Out of all of the horror franchises it’s the only one that has yet to be rebooted, that hasn’t reached a point where they fucked it all up and everybody involved said “alright we’ve gotta destroy everything and start all over again.” Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers and of course Freddy Krueger are names that might come to mind first and yet when you look at all of these franchises overall, it’s Chucky with the best and most consistent level of quality.

After watching Cult of Chucky I have to say this high standard continues. I think the standard even excels to a point that is going to be very hard for the franchise to top because damn, this is a really great movie.

2017 is such a great year for horror that even a straight to DVD/Blu-Ray/VOD film like this offers far more than the lackluster blockbusters that were put into theaters this summer that caused record lows for the box office.

First off, Cult of Chucky is a brilliant demonstration as to how all these years later this franchise has not only avoided being rebooted but still truly cares about its devoted fanbase. You not only have the great and iconic Jennifer Tilly returning as Tiffany but also Alex Vincent as Andy Barclay. It’s really cool to see this grown man whose involvement with this franchise began at the age if six continuing the be part of it. I will not say what happens in the post credits scene but I will point out it’s yet another demonstration as to how this franchise is in very good hands, in the hands of people who care very much about pleasing their fanbase and pull this off better than most.

Cult of Chucky is also everything you could ever want in a horror film. The deaths were wonderfully gory and creative, exactly what you want this film to do for you. I can’t stress how after all of these years this franchise gives horror fans exactly what they want and need. It’s a comfort to know that when some horror films disappointment, there’s always Chucky to satisfy fans of the genre.

The film also for me has the best ending imaginable. The way this film wrapped up couldn’t have been more perfect and there’s no other ending they could’ve went with that would have satisfied me as a viewer more.

Fans of this fantastic franchise and those who need a great horror film to get in the spirit of Halloween, do yourselves a favor and watch Cult of Chucky. It’s everything a horror film should be.
